2013: The 250. anniversary of Ahmed Resmî Efendis embassy
9. November 1763: Berlin is upside down. Knots of people are on the streets. Everybody wants to see the first Ottoman embassy under the leadership of Ahmed Resmî Efendi coming to the court of Frederick the Great. The visit had not only political impact, it also affected the cultural life. According to the 18.th centuries passion for „Turqueries“, the King had already a copy of a Janissary Band in duty. But after hearing the original Ottoman Band, he engaged authentic Turkish musicians. Ahmed Resmî Efendis nephew must also have been an interesting personality. According to sources, he was a brilliant singer and also a charmer, turning the Prussian ladies heads. The guests from the Ottoman empire also became enthusiastic about the upcoming carnival. It is passed on that Ottoman and Prussian musicians performed together on the occasion of a fancy dress party. ATC offers you some varieties of this colorful programme: a pure chamber music version with court and dance music form Germany and Istanbul or together with dancers. We are also able to embed our music in a real costume party or, if you really want history breathing down your neck, we also can arrange the programme with a complete Mehter band.
