Özata Ayan (Tanbur)
He was born in Ankara, Turkey, 26 February 1970. He went to the Üsküdar elementary and junior high school and then the Üsküdar Halide Edip Adıvar high school. He received his bachelor’s degree at the Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music State Conservatuary in 1993. He received his Master’s Degree at the Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Classsic Turkish Music. He started playing various instruments at the age of 10 and during his university years he became a professional performer with his musical instrument, Tanbur. He took his first Tanbur classes from Hakan Talu for 1.5 years and Abdi Coşkun for 3.5 years. Ozata Ayan specifically prefers the romantic and solo form of musical interpretation. He recently is the performer of Tanbur at the Turkish Republic, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul State Historical Turkish Music Ensemble. He is married with Şehnaz Ayan who is a Kemence performer and he is the father of two, Kerem ve Tarık. Also he has the studies of Turkish Music forms and sound systems, a research of the instrumentation of Tanbur, a scientific analysis and transcription to Latin alphabet of the book, “Gülzar-ı Musiki”; a research of the physic of Sound and the acoustic of concerts, digitazing and archiving old music records, adaptation of the Turkish Music note systems to digitize the sound and notes on computer.
